Welcome to Burns Lake!
A service hub for the Lakes District,
Burns
Lake is a village located on the
Yellowhead
Highway, approximately 70 km (44 mi) west of Fraser Lake in northwest
British
Columbia. Fueled by the forestry, farming and tourism industries, tourists
are drawn to the area for its outdoor recreational pursuits such as fishing. Numerous
lakes and rivers are found in and around Burns Lake including
Francois
Lake to the south and
Babine
Lake to the north, both offering opportunities to catch rainbow trout and
char (lake trout). The village also provides access to the north end of
Tweedsmuir
Provincial Park, one of British Columbia's largest, which can be reached via
boat or float plane. In town, visitors can learn about the early pioneers that settled in the
region at the
Lakes
District Museum, or take a historical tour of the village and visit heritage
sites such as the old gambling den—known as the
Bucket
of Blood—and
St.
John's Anglican Church—which dates back to the 1920s.
